Title: Final Control Operator

Unit: One Africa TV

Reports to: Final Control Supervisor


Final Control Operator is responsible for monitoring the quality and accuracy of our on-air signals as well as ensuring the transmission meets government regulations and the station’s high standards. Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and preparing programming for play out.

Work hours are shift-based and include evenings, weekends and public holidays.



Responsibilities

  • Helps to assure a high quality broadcast by monitoring on-air broadcast signals

  • Following the programme log to air programmes and commercial breaks

  • Monitoring and controlling the transmitter output and resolving any on-air problems which might occur.

  • Provides support for future broadcasts by recording programmes from satellite feeds and ingesting media from various sources.

  • Helps to assure compliance with applicable regulations and communication with other departments by maintaining transmitter and discrepancy logs, equipment incident reports, the daily report of satellite recordings, and the programme logs.

  • Assists with on-air station and programme promotion through basic editing functions.

  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as required by the Chief Engineer - TV.

  • Helps to ensure the overall success of the organization by performing all other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Education: A high school certificate or the equivalent is required.

  • Work well within a team environment and independently with minimal supervision

  • Possess strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Computer literate and technically oriented

  • Self-motivated, and a fast learner

  • Exhibit a professional attitude at all times and be able to perform in a high-pressure environment

  • Able to sit/stand for long periods of time

  • Good communication skills

  • Work hours are shift-based includes evenings, weekends and public holidays.
